After installing a new iomega zipdrive, my scanjet 5100c won't work; the printer does work; how can I fix?

You have too many devices on your parallel port pulling too much power you will need to get a seperate parallel port for the zip drive...

reason for this is two things the parallel port has a limited voltage output you have two devices that take a lot of power the zip drive and the scanner...

secondly the zip drive has a program that runs in the background called iowatch or io something it varies by model... this takes control of the parallel port it also has comments in your system files that take control of the parallel port which means other devices will lnot be able to communicate while this device is loaded your only possible workaround is to hit ctrl, alt, delete and end task everything except for explorer and systray then try launching your scanning software again.

if that does not work then your only option is to get another parallel port and either load the scanner on that port and leave the zip and printer on the other port since they are working fine ... or you can  load the printer and scanner on lpt2 and keep the zip on lpt1...

zip drives are notorius for communication errors on the parallel port
