Setting up modem in Redhat Linux 6.1

I am using Redhat Linux 6.1.I chose custom setup previously and excluded networking.I like to know exactly which packages are needed to install to connect to internet via Linux and via modem.
Eventually I have no additional network card.Only I have a 56 KBps D-Link external modem that supports both K56flex and V.90 standards.
please specify the exact steps to connect to internet (including configuring the modem).
  So,pleeeeeze help me.Looking forward...

Netwiz,

I recommend reading the /usr/doc/HOWTOs for PPP and NET-3.  All your answers are there.  Additionally, are you going to masquerade other machines or have a single dial-up?  In any event, the PPP and DIALD packages are essential.  I also recommend implementing one phase at a time (i.e. PPP, then IPCHAINS, then, etc.).  While you're at it, review compiling your kernel.  I personally like KERMIT to send AT commands and test my modem/connection;  SEYON will also work.  I can't provide the exact steps because the situation isn't exact.  You should also consider a majordomo list server.  No frills but a very smart crew awaits your questions 24x7.
