detecting when a file of type .mp3 has been added...

I have a listctrl with a list of all .mp3 files on the hard drive. When the application is started up the first time I search the drive for all .mp3 files and fill the list and I create a database to retrieve from later so I don't need to search again. But a file could have been added while my program was running(after I already searched) or when my program wasn't running.

I need a way to find out when a .mp3 file was added to the hard drive and automatically update my list. Someone suggested I do a system hook. Is there an easier way? if not could I get an example of a system hook to check if a .mp3 file has been added?

Thank you
