Tape library / carousel

I just purchased a tape library from compaq for doing backups with Veritas Backup Exec for NT.  How should I go about changing tapes and archiving them?  How do I know what data is on what tape if a backup can span multiple tapes?  Should I simply overwrite tapes as I go along?  Any instructions or advice would be great -I have never used one of these carousels before.

I'm also using BackupExec for NT with an autoloader.  I simply lable my tapes "corporate name - tape 1" and increment the number.  I have a monthly set of three that go off-site forever and are labled according.  When I first installed the tape drive, I put the tapes in the drive in order and erased them.  This gave the tapes a "date".  The backup software overwrites the oldest tapes first, so it keeps my tapes in order.  The log from any backup can tell you when and what tape was used.  I suggest you use server based catalogs.  This will speed up the backup and allow you to search for a file you need to restore and then ask you for the tape.

Our tapes go off-site every day and are on a one week rotation.
