For example, if you go to
http://java.sun.com/applets/index.html
with MSIE 5 you will see "Java guy" icon on the left side of navigation bar instead standard "e" icon.
How do they do it ?

It's so easy. You must create a windows icon and put it on the root directory of your web. The icom must be called "favicon.ico"
