Applet or JavaScript

Any body have interesting comparaison between Applet usage and JavaScript.

I'm looking for reference on this subject to get the positive and negative point of the applet. I need relevent documentation on the applet usage.

 Javascript is much lighter (faster) than an applet. But you lose alot of the power java has using javascript.
 If the problem on the client is something simple like form validation by all means use javascript. But if you need something encapsulated like a password, credit card #'s, etc.. or need more advanced programming needs like RMI or Sockets. You have to use applets. Javascript is pretty much a watered down loosely typed Java.

As a summary:
In my job we had been asking the question for about a month before choosing.
It depends on your aim. Our was to have an interactive application on the web.

We ve decided to drop the applets idea because of
1) the time to download the class than can be too long for the user
2) the way the applets behave a lot with the browser
3) with the new features, you can have, with javascripts, the interactivity that applets are offering

I don t say that javascript is bugfree or that there are no differences between IE and NS but javascript is simple, and it s enough to give animations to your site.
