Bigger and better .htaccess?

Is there a way to get .htaccess to do things other than pop up an authentication window?  Like, can it redirect the user to another page?  I figure this one's pretty easy...

yes sure use

Redirect /page http://foo2.bar.com/page

every request to your 'page will be redirected to 'http://foo2.bar.com/page'

Alias /image /ftp/pub/image

every request to 'image' will be redirected to '/ftp/pub/image"

Huh?  Could you write out a full file example?

Also, is there a way to check for specific pages within a directory?  Like if you go to page A do this, page B do that, page C do the other?
