Missing Fonts

I have noticed a problem with fonts in Notes. They aren't all there!

A significant number of the fonts on my PC are not showing in the Font list in Lotus Notes. I checked another PC and they are also missing some fonts from the list in Notes. Now for the truly weird bit, the fonts thjat are missing vary from PC to PC!

Anyone have any clues on what might cause this or how to fix?

In your WindowsControl Pannel can you check what fonts are there and what ones are missing.  Can you give me an example of one that is missing which might help.

Also if there are multiple occurances of the same Font ie Arial Narrow and Arial Narrow Bold also exists then this will only show up once in Lotus Notes - Arial Narrow will only show up.

Any more info you have would help.

I will have another look at this problem later for you.

OK - To use Arial as an example, Notes does show several of the variations, but not all.

Arial, Arial Black, Arial Condensed Bold, Arial Narrow & Arial Rounded show in Notes but Arial Narrow does not.

Another example, Verdana is showing in Notes on my PC but not on a colleagues.

This is the real strange bit, in that the behaviour is different on different PCs.

Some more info for you. 3 additional possible causes.

1.  This error will occur any time more than 250 fonts are available in the operating system for indexing in Notes. These fonts may be available either in the system's font folder, or through a Font Manager such as ATM.

Notes R4.x uses an 8-bit indexing ID to build a table of available fonts on the system, allowing Notes to index up to 250 fonts. This 250 font indexing limit is a current limitation of Notes. An enhancement request has been submitted to Lotus Quality Engineering to expand the number of fonts Notes is capable of indexing.

Since the font table that Notes builds is highly dependent on the operating system font ID assignments, there is no clear pattern to which fonts will be included in Notes. The current recommendation is to use a Font Manager such as Adobe Type Manager on each machine to partially control the indexing order of fonts. The customer should reduce the number of fonts in the system folder (either Macintosh or Windows) to include only standard fonts. The customer should only use these fonts when designing views in Notes. Additional fonts may be activated by a Font Manager. With this approach, all system fonts will be indexed first, and therefore, any fonts used in a Notes View should be available.

2.  Open the Fonts folder in the Windows Control Panel. From the menu, select View, Options (or Folder Options), and switch to the True Type tab. There is a setting called "Show Only TrueType Fonts in the Programs on my Computer". If this property is enabled, the normal default fonts will not be available to Notes.

3.  Another reason for this may be what printer driver (Printer) is insatlled on each machine which may cause inconsistincies or restrictions in whatever fonts are being displayed.

Thanks for that. Lotus were telling us there was no known issue.

I have the same problem but the three possible causes didnt' help.

1.  I have 158 fonts installed
2. changing TrueType settings have no effect
3. reinstalled drivers didnt' help

Furthermore, the fonts show in 123 but not Word Pro.  123 shows 158 fonts but WP shows only 2 fonts.

Any suggestions?

Spiffy - this problem and solution is with Notes. It doesn't apply to any other Lotus products. AFAIK.
