Curved text in Photoshop

How can I have a curved text (like around a circle) with Photoshop 5?

This is not possible in photoshop alone. You need either a plugin (I don't know of any) or a piece of software like freehand or illustrator. Basically you do what you want in illustrator and then import it into photoshop.
bgillbanks is correct. Photoshop is not a typography tool. Its a bitmap image editing and creation tool. Ilustrator is one of Adobe's typesetting tools and is the most versatile as far as getting nitty gritty with text.
or there is a very stupid way to do what you want in PS.  chop off each single letter in your words, and paste them into your working space, and adjust the position, makes it look like it's curved.
There is one plug-in that I know about: It's called Extensis Photographics and will do some limited vector based graphics inside of Photoshop, mainly text effects:

http://www.extensis.com/photographics/

If you want only to do text effects in Photoshop, you could probably download a demo version and try it. But I think it's a little pricey myself and if you even think you might want to do more serious illustration in addition to text stuff, stick to a vector based program such as illustrator.
ok this is very simple
Create a new image.
fill it with the background that u like.
now type any text and drag the text so that it is on the left margin of the image.
now just go to the Filter properties and somewhere there(i don't remember exactly where).......there is a Rectangular to Polar co-ordinates. This will cirle ur text. You can try this effect. It's undoubtedly the best one

Using polar coordinates usually distorts the text so much that the outside edge becomes pixely and fuzzy.
The only way to have curved text is to create each letter individually and align them manually to a curve. Photoshop does not have a snap to for this.
For me, I would use Corel to creat the text, then import the graphic into PS.

If you've not got Corel, and want something qucik n easy, then I'd suggest "Wordart" in MS Word (Which I think EVERYBODY has got), and then cut n past it into a new layer.

I'm not sure that the proposed answer is the most elegant solution....

I'd be willing to contest the statement that everyone has MS Word..;)
OK.. OK...

Everybode *apart* from Weed... and many Mac users... and lots of other people has got!

;-D

PoRL
I'd still contest it..heh.
Here's how you do it.
1)Type your text.
2)Edit>Transform>Numeric and increase the height to about 225%.
3)Edit>Transform>Rotate 180 degree
4)Hold down Shift to constrain the selection to a square and select the text with the rectangular marquee tool.
5)Filter>Distort>Polar Coordinates select rectangular to polar.  At this point 5.5 will tell you that the text will have to be rendered.  Hit OK.

This works better if you do it double size then resample it because Weed is right it gets somewhat fuzzy on the outside edges.  If your selection isn't square you will get an oval instead of a circle.
Yeah thatll do it, unfortunately you dont have much control over the curvature of your text.
You can do it elegantly this way.. only thing is you'll need to repeat some steps for all the characters of the word:
a) Make a new file 200x200. Draw a circle using the marquee tool in the middle.
b) Stroke the marquee about 2 px using the default colors(B/W), with B in foreground(Edit->Stroke, 2, 'Center'). Drag out 2 guides from left and top to snap to the center of the circle. This will give you a reference layer.
c) Use the Type tool and generate the first letter of the word. Place the letter on the very top of the circle.
d) Edit->Free transform. Drag the target marker in the centre of the word to the intersection of the guides. It'll snap into place.
e) Drag the letter to where you want it ultimately.
f) Repeat (c) thru (e) until all letters are thru.
g) To center text, link all text layers , Edit->Free Transform, again drag target marker to center of circle, and rotate text until centered.

Hope this solves ur problem.
Shekar.
photoshop 6b out end of september will enable this.... THE FUTURE IS LOOKING BRIGHT!!!!
Um sorta...Its got preset curves so you still dont have the control that you have in Illustrator.
Someone want to contest this being autograded? There was certainly debate as to how valid angelfires answer was.
Dear angelfire58

hi,
i hope i m not late for this question but here is the answer.

i would have explained it but screen shots will be better so please take a look at this tutorial
on given website.
Polar filter rarely cuts it. Results in horribly distorted outer text edges and limits you to a circle. Photoshop 8 allows text on a path.
