NFS between IRIX 5.3 and IRIX 6.5

I've got a new IRIX 6.5 machine and I want to crossmount volumes on an IRIX 5.3 machine using NFS. I remember hearing that 6.5 won't support NFS to older systems...is this true - the NSF man page doesn't mention anything?

If it should work, why won't

IRIX5.3machinename:/directoryname /mountlocation nfs rw,sync,soft,intr,timeo=100,retrans=10 0 0

in the fstab mount correctly?

Thanks

I think it'll work with the 6.5 system mounting filesystems exported from 5.3, as is. It's the other way around that might be a problem. The mount of the 5.3 filesystem should try version 3 of the NFS protocol and if that fails try version 2. The other issue is that you'll need to export any 6.5 filesystems with the "32bitclients" option (see "man exports") so that the 5.3 box can mount the 6.5 exports.
I have a suspicion that you have to specify vers=2 on the machine doing the NFS mount. I remember we had a problem with IRIX Machines, I believe 5.3. 'supports' NFS version 3 just not very well. Specifying vers=2 in the options will start the 'negotations' at version 2 not version3.
