I know I need to configure the server extensions and I have had pockets of information filled in.

Instructions can be found here.  http://officeupdate.microsoft.com/frontpage/wpp/serk/adadv_1.htm

For IIS5 (Windows 2000), open administrative tools, open the server extensions MMC, right-click on the web name under your computer name, choose properties, and click 'settings' by the mail setup.
did this help solraccheffy, or do you still require assistance?

still not getting this to work properly.
Ok...we need feedback in order to help you.

What EXACTLY have you done recently and what is happening now??
I have filled out the information for the tab specified and still no luck
Web Server's mail address
Contact Address
SMTP Mail Server
Mail Encoding
Character Set
what does it say in your registry entry for \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\SHARED TOOLS\WEB SERVER EXTENSIONS\PORTS\port
Do you have the FrontPage MMC Snap-in installed??

http://officeupdate.microsoft.com/frontpage/wpp/serk/admmc.htm
I have 2 values
Default
Port /LM/W3SVC/1:
and a folder within there called
PORT /LM/W3SVC/1: and then in there are all the values.
>>I have a form that is to send an e-mail on submition,

I assume because this is in the FrontPage thread, you need the front page extensions installed to do the emailing you are trying to do.

If you are comfortable with coding, we can supply ASP code that will send the email for you as well.

I don't know anything about FrontPage though sorry, i try to avoid it.  :-)

BRUNO
I know how to user ASP to do this but I want and need the Frontpage features
why not just reinstall the frontpage extensions then?
been there done that......
ClassyLinks are you there?
Sorry just trying to help....like I said i stay away from that program.

There shouldn't be anything you NEED Frontpage for that you can't do on your own, especially if you know how to code.

Just my two cents.  I'll let you deal with Classy now.

BRUNO
yes you are right if it were up to me I would just code in asp and that's it, but it's for clients who don't know how to code in asp and frontpage is easier for them.
Hi...I'm still here....just busier than a 1 armed paper hanger over here.  ;-)

I was really hoping that dgorin could pop back in....he was the one with the great link.

Ok...I see I haven't asked the basics yet so please bear with me and reply to the following:

What OS is your server?
Is it local or on the web?
If on the web is it with a hosting company or are you hosting yourself?
Do you have IIS4 or IIS5?
Did you download the extensions or do you have them on disk?

I'm sure I'll think of more, but that should get us started.
1.WINDOWS 2000
2.Local or on the web? Local I guess I have a web server in our office trying to set it up on that machine.
3.It's just a basic page with a text box and submit, here in our office
4.WINDOWS 2000 comes with IIS5 correct?
5.I believe I got them from the disk, then downloaded and still no luck.
And you are using Personal Web Server, correct?
With Windows 2000 professional, you need to install IIS 5 from the CD.  If you got an older PWS from a download, no telling what may happen.  PWS 4, the current PWS, was an IIS4 look-alike for W9x computers.

To install IIS5 in W2K, log on as admin, control panel-add remove programs and choose to add-remove windows components.  I have never had to separately install the server extensions, they are included in IIS5 I think.

If you're using W2K Server, IIS should have installed by default.

hi dgorin...thanks for coming back...all my servers are remote so most of this stuff is just conjecture for me.
Yes it's W2K server so it must have been installed by default.
ClassyLinks you asked if I was using Personal Web Server, do you mean on my machine, the answer is yes.....why does it matter?
Not sure if it does....just trying to get all the info.
did you install the snap-in (quoted above)??
What's the snap in for? Does it come with W2K
I think you need to download it.

Administrative Tasks You Can Perform by Using the FrontPage MMC Snap-in

You can use the FrontPage MMC snap-in to perform the following tasks:

Install the FrontPage Server Extensions on a Web server.
Extend a virtual server with the FrontPage Server Extensions.
Check and fix the FrontPage Server Extensions on a web.
Upgrade the FrontPage Server Extensions on a web.
Remove the FrontPage Server Extensions from a web.
Delete a subweb that you have extended with the FrontPage Server Extensions.
Convert a subweb into a folder, and vice versa.
Recalculate all hyperlinks in a web.
Add an administrator.
Enable or disable authoring on a web.
Tune web performance.
Log authoring operations.
Require Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) for authoring.
Specify that a folder can contain executable scripts or programs.
Enable source control.
Set e-mail options.
How do I know if I have it without installing it again or something?
I'm afraid I don't know the answer to that one sol.  I'm on Win98 with PWS and IIS4...I don't have anything to compare to your set-up.  8-(
On your web server, open the Administrative Tools and look for Server Extensions Administrator.  This will open a console with the FrontPage Server Extensions tree.  Find your server computer name in the tree, right-click and choose properties.  This is where you find the settings for how FP sends mail.
okay we are back to the begining here.....I have done that and the settings are specified there so now what?
Dunno.  What happens when you create a Frontpage Email form and submit it?  Do you get an error?  Did you fill out valid email information?

There should be something in the Event log or some other log file if the form is accepted and there is a subsequent error.
If I make a simple page with 2 submit button to send e-mail. When I close out the properties of the form properties. It tells me that I don't have Server Extensions setup properly and tells me to set it up. I thought I had it all set up on the server. With info from above.
What log on the server do I check?
Don't worry about that error message...it happens all the time.

View your page through your server and test it from there.
What do you mean through your server?
I am on a local computer connecting to it.
open your browser and type:  127.0.0.1/yourwebname/pagename.htm (or whatever the extension is)

Try out the form and check there for error messages.
ok you lost me there, what does the 127.0.0.1 represent? do I do this from my local computer?
Here are a couple links that may help you out.  If you don't specify a valid smtp server in the server extensions, you get errors.

http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q196/4/89.asp     HOWTO setup FP2000
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q196/4/61.asp     HOWTO send mail form
127.0.0.1 is the local IP on your machine.
why am I accessing my local computer if the web and form is on the server?
will check the links provided
Ok...so where exactly are we having this problem.  If you've installed the extensions on the server and you are getting this message when using FP on the local machine, you should have no problems  when you upload to the server.

This error is because your local machine does not have the ability to send emails (to smtp capabilities) but once you get it on the server the form should work fine.
okay maybe I am not being clear and I appoligize.....I am connecting to my server and creating the pages and forms on my server and getting the error. I am not working locally.
ok...so you are working live on the server...still you need to do as I suggest (even if just to debug the error)

Whenever you are working in FP it is writing to your (local) directory on the server....but the scripts are run properly until you call them in a browser (and not with the preview pane either)
comments??
Hi I am having the same probblem( posted the same Question with 300 points "Extension Server with Email" can any one
fmufti:

before we go around the mulberry bush again:  Have you read & tried everything we have suggested above?

For both of you:

Are you creating this page (OTW-are you using FP) on the SAME machine which serves as your web server or are you developing the page/site and then transferring it to your server?  If you are transferring it, do you use publish or FTP?

THIS IS IMPORTANT:

You will continue to get this error message IF you are using a different machine to develop vs. serve your site.  If it occurs during the development stage you need not worry about it.  Once you publish it to a server with FP extensions you will not have any problems.

IF however, this error message occurs on the same machine that serves the site..you need to check it out "live" by entering in the http://127.0.0.1/yourwebname/yourpage.htm in the address bar of a browser.  Only then can the browser parse the WEBBOT and then you can test to see if they are indeed working.

Yes I have tried all of the above
Once enter sent to emailin submit it adds a line "[FrontPage Save Results Component]
But that http://127.0.0.1/yourwebname/yourpage.htm did not have this line, So how to tell FP that I will upload this page ultimately to a server which will have Frontpage extensions wth email so dont give this message and error that ur ISP doent have FP ServerExtension
Ok...the reason you see that in either the Preview tab or locally on your browser is FP needs the site to be published to work.

You can continue to work even with the server extensions have not been configured error message as long as you publish or save your page live to the server with FP extensions.

OK?
solraccheffy:  sorry for the tangent there.

Have you had any luck since our last suggestion?
sol??  Are you still there?
getting frustrated maybe just gonna scrap the idea.....
