Database created in R5 running on R4.6 server ?

Quick question,
Is it possible (and advisable) to create a database in R5 designer that will be deployed on R4.6.3 Domino server ?
100 points for a quick answer...... If not how can I have a two versions of notes running on the same machine ?

1.You can create a database in R5 and save it with the extention .ns4
This will keep it in R4 format....

2. Install 2 different Notes versions in different directory's...examp. put R5 in c:\Notes and R4 in c:\NotesR4....Make sure the notes.ini exists in both directory's..examp....c:\Notes\notes.ini..and..c:\NotesR4\notes.ini....

To run the apps at the same time change the shortcuts from "notes.exe" to "nlnotes.exe"
Was this quick enough???? :-)))

Hi tgebruik - that was pretty damn quick !!!

Does that mean I can take a DB that I developed in R4.6 -rename it "database.ns4" and then continue to work with it in R5 designer and still publish it on domino 4.6 ?

when I try and install the second version (R4.6) of notes the setup procedure crashes and gives the error message "NOT +4380; illegal Function Call" - is this a conflict ? I have R5 designer and domino installed already...
Close all apps when installing...
Yes, you can rename it to ns4...but keep in mind that you must choose only 1 application to do design in the future...

Do not change design in R4 after you have allready edited in R5....this will bring inconsistency.. :-(

So, you created a db in R4...rename it to ns4....edit design in R5..but do no editing in R4 anymore..than all goes well..:-)
for your information...ns4 will keep you from ODS changes....(to prevent exidentally compact functions..)
Hmmm is this feasible/advisable ? this project is to develop an application for a customer - so it has to be stable....
ODS ???
