everytime  I start up my laptop, the numlock key is on.  This is annoying since the  numbers are on
the whole right side of the keyboard.  Can someone tell me how I can keep it from turning on automatically
when I startup, so I dont' have to constantly turn it off?

You can turn it off in the Bios.

Changing the BIOS would be the best idea...
To do this when the computer is starting up, there is usally a message across the bottom of the screen saying "Press (Key) to enter Setup"

This key is usally F2 or Del, but can be different.
When inside, there should simply be an option whether Numlock should be on or off
