I am getting a problem when connecting to a host machine using FTAM. This is the error I am getting and I do not know what could be the problem!! I have been using FTAM to fetch files from a remote machine  via an X-25 link. Off late the FTAM connection started misbehaving and giving the error below.

Error connecting to host, FTAM diagnostic = 1011
1011: Lower layer failure

What should I do??

Hi,

It looks like the connection is being dropped.  I assume that you are using a FTAM Initiator.  The gateway is sending a F-P-ABORT with identifier 1011 (Lower layer failure).

I would check relevant log files for errors.  Could this be a firewall issue?

Also, ensure that you are using the latest set of OS patches and application patches.

Regards, Nisus

Since you dont tell what version you are running this might be a bug that is not yet resolved.

There are bugreports pending on FTAM 8.0.3 about this error on some filesizes. No solution yet.

There are also bugs in 8.2 causing the 1011 error make sure you have latest patches for FTAM and OSI/X25 installed.

You might need patch 105738-07 if running on sparc or 105739-07 if you are on intel.
