the reports that i need to print is pretty large.. ie ten of thousands records with some calculations to be done...

i know using pages (ie displaying a number of records per page) is one of the method... but how should i go abt doing it?? also, is there any other methods to to it??

thanxs in advance..

displaying a fixed number of records per page is the best way, I feel, with next and previous buttons to navigate, even page numbers to directly jump to particular pages.

What is the database backend that you are using?

I use Perl and MySQL, and this is how I do it...

The sql statement that is use goes like this
select * from ........... limit $offset, $showmax
where $offset is set to 0 and $showmax to 5, that's starting from the first record and five records only

once the first page is displayed, a hidden form field on the page counting the page number is set to 1

again this same cgi is called and the value of page number read, it is multiplied by 5 for each next button

hope you understand... I am not sure whether limit works in sybase or not
