Voice Recognition in software

I am a student who is taking Degree this year. My honors project is to developing a multimedia software teaching users on how to learn Japanese Language - Kanji. I would want to include voice recognition into this software. Currently, I m applying Macromedia Director 7 to compile my project.
Question 1: I have place "Record" button and "Play" button on the interface design, but can the user's voice be recorded through the microphone of users after user has click on "record" button, then save in disk. Then users are able to play the voices as many times as they want when they click "Play" buton?

Question 2: How can I include voice recognition to control the command buttons? For example, users say "Back"through speaking on the microphone and the software automatically goes back to the previous page. Is it possble? What kind of techniques are needed? Or what kind of programming language?

Thanks for trying out my question.

Best bet for you is to get a component / object which can do the voice-handling for you. Saving and acting on it that it. It is pretty hard to get such things to work without a component. It would take a really long time before you get such a thing programmed.

For an article which has a list of several voice recognition components you can use, check out this page:

The voice SDK might be something useful too. Just check them out. They have like an X amount of words already, so you can just retrieve the word being spoken, and check on it. http://www.pc98.com/voice_sdk/voice_sdk.html
