Import Clipart in Publisher 2000 from Microsoft on-line

I recently acquired an I.B.M. computer with Windows 2000 and pre-installed Microsoft Office with Publisher 2000.
When I try to download clipart "on line" from Microsoft a dialog box tells me:

"Unable to launch application. Application not found"

The "file types" section of  "Folder Options" shows that "*.cil" files open with:

"Clip Gallery 5.0 Helper Application"

I am at a loss to understand this and do not know what to do in order to be able to download those files...
Can somebody help me with my problem? (where is good old Win3.11? :-)
Thank you,
Fred.

Hi. It looks to me as though you haven't got Clip Gallery installed. I believe this can be installed from your original Office 2000 CD but probably it would be better to download and install the latest version of Clip Gallery from the Microsoft website.

Microsoft Clip Gallery Live for Office 2000
Clip Gallery Live allows you to search for, group, preview, and download clip art and other types of media for use and reuse within Microsoft Office programs and other compatible programs that support Microsoft Clip Gallery 3.0 or later.

Try the following URL:
http://office.microsoft.com/downloads/2000/clipgalv2000.aspx

Hope this helps.

Hi. How did you go about attempting to download? Did you go to Insert-Picture-Clipart and hit the "Clips Online" button?

Also, once you download CIL files, you need to double-click them through Windows Explorer and they are automatically added to your clipart files.

Don't know if this helps or not, but wanted to clarify because double-clicking the CIL files is something many people don't realize.
To both Tom Sawyer and fgilmand:

Here in the Office topic area, we usually post as comment, not as an answer. Posting as an answer takes the question out of the "open" question list and locks it. Most people don't read the locked questions (you'll notice, Tom, that yours is the ONLY locked question in this topic area), and the asker is not always given the benefit of several or more potential fixes to try.

Tom, your statements, "it looks as though" and "I believe this can", both indicate that you're not positive that this is the answer for fgilmand. If you read this: https://www.experts-exchange.com/jsp/cmtyQuestAnswer.jsp, you'll find that unless you're really certain that this is the answer, you shouldn't post as answer.

When I first got here, I posted as an answer too, and got yelled at, LOL. I'm just passing it on...

Anyway, fgilmand, you can reject Tom's answer, especially if it doesn't help you. I'm sure he won't be offended, and your question will go back into the "open" list.
Dreamboat,

Thanks for your help and suggestions. I'm new to posting comments and answers and appreciate your advice.

Apologies if I've caused anyone any problems. I really won't be offended.

To Tom Sawyer and Dreamboat...

1.- Before today, the files did not even download but after eceiving your comments, I returnrd to the Gallery Live page and "optimized" my two browsers for downloading clips.

2.- Now, the .cil files download but, after double-clicking the .cil file, no clipasrt can be found in the "Downloaded Clipart" section of Clipart gallery.

3.- Tried to download "Microsoft Clip Gallery Live for Office 2000" at the MS website, but the download link gets me back to the Design Gallery Live page (the "download" page states size of file as 0KB...

Any suggestions?
Thank you,
Fred.
To Tom Sawyer, Dreamboat and anyone else who could help me....

My problem still has not been resolved and I have not been able to get any support from either Microsoft or I.B.M. (no big surprise!).
Please HELP!

Fred.
Try the following useful links:

Why doesn't my computer recognise clip files that I've downloaded from this site?
http://dgl.microsoft.com/mgo1en/help/cglhelp31.asp

and make sure you've optimised your browser correctly:
http://dgl.microsoft.com/mgo1en/help/cglhelp26.asp

Sorry Tom! I already have "perused" these two subjects, all to no avail!!!
My two browsers have been optimised according to Microsoft directive, but still nothing!
I just talked to someone who has the same problem, with the same results...
Of course,as I said previously e-mails to Microsoft "support" go unanswered
Fred.
What do you mean by the "downloaded clipart". I don't have that (I don't have publisher, but I have Office). Listen, try to find out the name of at least one of the files you downloaded and look for it on your hard drive. Perhaps they're going to the wrong location?
To Tom Sawuer and Dreamboat

Since there were no "real" answers, I am resubmitting my question! Thank you for your effort though!
I did find a way around my problem, but it's "a pain".
Fred.
Fred:

In order to get your points back, you should:

1) tell us how you got around the problem so others may know
2) provide feedback to my most recent post
Hi Dreamboat!
Sorry, I am new at this!

1.- In reply to your recent post: In Publisher, "Clipart Gallery" has a section called "Downloaded Clipart". This is where, presumably, the double-clicked .cil files put the downloaded clipart. From there you can then name and categorize the individual images.

2.- My way around the problem... I noticed that when I finished downloading .cil files, a dialog box was telling me: "cannot find....." with a long path for a non existing directory! I made a new folder with that name and ...presto, my files were there and I was able to see my clipart. It only works with I.E. though, Netscape still doesn't want to cooperate.

As an aside, I am getting tired of Netscape which I have had as a default browser for several years. One can never get any answers from (e-mail) support, every version of Netscape I have had has a tendency to crash at any time etc... As with everything else, I kept it "for old times' sake" but now I think it's time to change!!!

Thank you,
Fred.
