Mailbox Compression

Exchange 5.5 sp2

Our mailbox database is about 6Go.
The problem: we deleted all old mailboxes and the size is still the same. How can I compress the database.

Like Msaccess, there's maybe a tool for compressing the database

You should use the eseutil to run a manual defrag of your DB's.  This takes a while so run it at night.  Here is how it works.

Yes.  Here is MS's intro to the tool.

The defragmentation option makes used storage contiguous, eliminates unused storage, and compacts the database, which reduces the database's size. Eseutil copies database records to a new database. When defragmention is complete, the original database is deleted or saved to a user-specified location, and the new version is renamed as the original. If the utility encounters a bad record, the utility stops and displays an error message.
