WIZard,

Thank you for your kind help with regard to my CDROM problem in this question:

It is now obvious to me that I need to try a new CDROM drive of the same vintage as the old one.  Therefore, I
want to close out this question.

I am awarding partial credit on points, because the problem has not been solved yet.
