using files from the web as input files

example i have an app created and i want it to check if there is a newer version.

e.g. bij browsing to an url, and on error tell to go to the site for a new version

Or, and this i like more get an .txt file from an url and check if the contents = no or yes if yes then continue if no then tell to download a new version

well you could use the web browser control (under project/componenets select microsoft internet controls)

then you could do something like:
   WebBrowser1.Navigate "http://www.experts-exchange.com/jsp/qList.jsp?ta=visualbasic"

    While WebBrowser1.Busy
        DoEvents
    Wend
   
    pageString = WebBrowser1.Document.body.innertext

which will return the text (everything but html tags) of the document, from which you can then parse out the information you need.
