MS SQL server CAL license

I would like to get some advise regarding software license issue.

I have create several crystal reports and have been compiled into exe file.  Those reports retrieve data from MS sql server database via ODBC.

User will use VB UI (exe) to point those crystal reports(exe) which are located in server.

In this scenario, do we need any software license ?

To my opinion, VB and crystal report licenses are not require because those are in exe format.  But do we need MS SQL Client Access License as those crystal reports just retrieve data via ODBC?

Pls advise.
Thanks

You need the client access licenses for each user that uses
* Crystal Report
* SQL Server

Only because they are in a compiled format does not change the requirements for Crystal Report, and the ODBC access does not avoid that you actually access the SQL Server.

You don't need a licence for VB, as you do not forward VB itself, but only a compiled program.

The difference is the functionality: Regarding VB you don't give the user the funcitonality of VB, but a program you wrote (using VB). Regarding SQL and CR, you use the functionality of those products.
