Texture in background

How can we set a texture in background in dx8. And how we continiously update it if I want to give the effect it is moving down.

You could create a large mesh and use it as a background....

Texture map a cylinder, and reverse the winding so that the cylinder is visible from the inside to the outside, and, as toyerman sez, make it large. and lock the centre axis to the eye of the camera on the x & z axis. That way you can rotate the cam and not have to worry about running out of scenery. Then just move the camera up and down in the cylinder. (or move the cylinder up and down with respect to the camera)  ... I am interpreting this to be in the 3d context.
