I am thinking of setting up a game server (counter strike) on a window 2000 server machine(not running
other service except gaming).

But i am worried about the security aspect of setting up one. Can anyone tell me what are the various
thing that i should perform on my Win2000 server in order to minimise the possiblity of people hacking
into my game server.

-You could minimally use tcp/ip filtering & allow only the tcp ports required... example.. 25,53,110,67,68.. etc..
-Ideally you'd want a hardware firewall like a netscreen-5..

well...no... More like the game port ..& others that allow basic functionallity... Like for example if your server is a dhcp client you need 67-68.. How is your server connected ?

Hi Housenet, now i'm confuse about how to setup a CS internet server. I have the game CD for "half life -game of the year edition" and also "counter strike retail version". Which one should i install in order to run my CS internet server. Do i have to use both?
I got to know from server.counter-strike.net that they have a CS server file to download. what is the different between this file and the one from my game CD "hlds.exe"
which one shld i install to run a internet CS server?
