Problems with windows 2000 reading cdr

I have a plextor 12x8x32 and i installed it into my machine but windows doe snot recognize it as a cdr at all and when i try to run my burning programs they say this error "application error: (17200) ASPI for windows has failed " I also tried installing the aspi drivers and they work fine but in the control panel in device manager it does not show the cdrom properties anywhere .
