Can't preview web pages in browser window

Perhaps this question belongs under windows me; I'm not sure. I have just got a new 2nd pc, with a 1GHZ PIII and 256 megs of RAM, and it is having problems running my web developement programs. I use Dreamweaver 4 and Arachnophilia, and with each of these I am often unable to use the preview feature to display the web page I'm working on. Usually this happens after the machine has been on a while, but occasionally it happens as soon as I boot up the computer. In either Dreamweaver or Arachnophilia, when I click on "Preview in IE 5.5" the screen just freezes and nothing happens. I have to control-alt-delete and end the task. This happens when I try to preview in Opera as well, so I think I can rule out IE as the problem. When I restart the PC again the preview feature will usually work for a while and then the problem resurfaces after a certain amount of time. (30 mins or longer, usually) Both these programs work fine on my other machine, which is a celeron 400mhz with 128 megs running Win 98. I tend to think it has something to do with windows me, what do you guys think?? The tech at the local shop where this PC was built didn't help much.

jerry,
this is a know problem with Deramweaver 4 and Windows Me.

From the Macromedia website:
'Dreamweaver, and other programs that make browser calls, sometimes crash when Previewing in Browser on Windows ME. This updater should resolve this problem in many cases.'

The updater is from 4.0 to 4.01, which you can download here:

jerry,
I definately think this is the solution. Many others have experienced the same as you. If this update does not fix it we're in trouble ;-)

Well it worked all day and I do believe the problem is solved. One little "side effect" is that I now cannot open a preview window in my other web editor, Arachnophilia, at any time. I emailed the webmaster at Arachnophilia's web site to see if they have a similar fix. Thanks again for helping.  :)
