Indeed, congratulations.  With my 23662 points, I still have a long way to go before I reach the top 15 ;-P

Thanks everyone!

Meikl, you got Raymond so you have your 4th place back :o)
Madshi, you are still way ahead.
Stefaan, it took me ages to get in the top 15 because at that time, I was not as familiar with Delphi as I'm now. So keep going...

Epsylon,

You just get points by posting stuff you got from other places.  You don't check your code or even the relevance of it.

I don't think the the word "expert" is really relevant in your case.  Even though you have helped a lot of people, as the points show, I don't think it's through knowledge.  I think you've just bodged your way through like a 16 year old wannabe.

Just an opinion.

Fair point Meikl, and yes, I can back this up with links to irrelevant comments/suggestions made by epsylon.

All I'm saying is that I don't find him particulary helpful and I feel that this praise is misdirected.

If people specifically ask me to back this up, I will post links, but until then this is not an argument.  It's just my comments and they are definately not meant to be accusatory or offensive.  Just observations.

Epsylon, don't go all girly on me.  You've got to appreciate the fact that everyone does not see eye-to-eye with each other.  This isn't personal so don't be defensive.

i was quite suprised to read all that ,i seen both you here along time and never realised you had some ding-dong..

>>You just get points by posting stuff you got from other places

thats attacking me(and others i guess)also as i am forever doing that and i see no harm in it if it solves someones problem?ive seen it done for code i wrote and ive done t for code others wrote ,so no problem .

after all 75% [ok im guesing] of all q's at e.e point to some msdn kb article at microsoft..which usully do solve the problem (from experience)

i thinks considering the q was for congrats to eps for getting past the 300k mark (which is good achievment eps ;-) that this was all a bit unnessesary.

the name of experts-exchange is maybe misleading not nessesarily meant as in expert at everything delphi, heck looks who's at no. 1 spot, probably the least knowledgable person of delphi in all in this thread ( and i really mean that)
it cant mean expert cause i dont really believe anyone here is a "expert" in all things concerned with delphi ,its too big to know it all properly
some people are damn good at some parts and not so good at others midas, com, isapi, api etc..so with a large comunity geneally everything gets covered.ideal situation i think.
for me its about giving up free time(which i have way too much of) to help others who are stuck and also i find this the best way of learning more myself, ive needed help before which reminds me of the webserver stuff eps did for me when no-one else had done anything like it at the time..and that was no copy/paste job..
i suppose what im saying is we shouldnt attack people for giving up their free time.
if someone irritates me i just ignore them in the future irrelevent of how many points the are giving ,i find it works best that way..

Congrats Epsylon.  I am close behind you at... 1,000 points or so.  :)

While Jaymol is entitled to his opinion, I don't think THIS thread was appropriate.  I think his opinion should have been sent to Epsylon privately.

One of the things developers want is to NOT have to reinvent the wheel each time out - to build on the past work of others if they can, while doing so ethically.  This is why programming languages come with a rich set of libraries, etc. so we don't have to write it all from scratch.

Hey, if Epsylon got EVERY point he has just from having knowledge of and access to other posts...if he solves the problem for me QUICKLY, I could care less where he got it from.  Everybody knows there is a SEARCH feature on EE, and if I fail to use it or fail to use it effectively, I am grateful for someone experienced who can, even if that person did not create the answer from scratch, he / she helped ME find it, and I call that a win-win in my book.

I think that "wanna be" does not describe accurately Epsylon or any of the other Experts here.  I am sure each one deserves the title and our respect, for being knowledgeable and for being willing to give of their time and effort to help others.

Jaymol. Please keep your opinions to yourself. Your comments are rude and inappropriate, if it had been me you had slandered I would have reported it to CS.

Way to go Epsylon it is a remarkable achievement indeed. As far I am concerned you are an Expert and I have used some of your stuff to help others here at EE. Who cares were the code originally came from anyway, this a LEARNING site as well and our basic aim is to get the questioner a solution and a lot of times it takes team work to accompish that. I think you are a team player Ep and I enjoy working threads with you.

BTW do you think it is POSSIBLE to programmically set the AutoHide property of the TaskBar? ROTFLMAO hehe :>)

I've read the above comments and would like to apologise to all for posting these thoughts here.

You were right to point out that this was not a good place to be staging this kind of discussion.

I'll say no more on the matter.

I would have to strongly agree with the consensus here. Epsylon Congrats!!!! 300k is huge!
As far as the expert discussion I agree that an expert does not have to know everything. An expert knows how and where to find information. As inthe pointed out it would be impossible for someone to know all there is to know about Delphi. I bet even the Borland R&D teams couldn't make that claim. That to me is the best thing about EE and the whole Delphi community. A place for us to share info and help each other write good software.
I know this much. EE and people like Epsylon have pushed me to learn more and dig deeper.
That is the beauty of it. As soon as I get big headed and think I know alot. I come here and see what others know and are doing. I am humbled and think to myself 'I know nothing', which pushes me further to learn.

I agree with bozo7.

I used to be satisfied with just asking the questions, but I am to the point where I want to learn HOW to think about development problems, HOW to approach these problems so I can find the answers myself, versus just asking the question without attempting to answer it myself.

For example, I have noticed that a lot of answers make use of the Win32 API.  I know the API is out there, documented, but I want to know it and understand it like the Experts know and understand it, so I know how to apply it properly.

Hi, Eps
Congrats again for crossing a big border
but also congratulation for being the most discussed delphi expert over a long period.
Cause i remember a simular discussion you had crossing
hm.. whas it the 200 k border, don't remember very well....
but i remember that you won this in reflection of all the people and cause of your humour
i remember somethhing as " you like playing tic- tac toe"
and do the possible to win this game in most of the discussions you have
well
i guess you did it again
go on and
keep the race interesting

Thanks everyone!

Indi, yes you're right. Someone didn't like that I submitted my Tic-Tac-Toe (coincidence?:o) program as answer. That was in the time of those Win-a-prize competitions where everyone was arguing one another constantly. In some other topic area, I saw a thread where they were almost killing each other.

Btw, I never got the points for that Tic-Tac-Toe program.

Well
You allways win since your opponent doesn't know that you
cannot win Tic Tac Toe !
It's like chess in the end !!! or life ?
you can only win
just playing tic tac toe !!!!!
And you shouldn't know this instinctively only
just use your brain to see
So,
just stay with us and don't leave as Mike (Lischke) or Rob (hope he comes back) Wilson
Barry wouldn'nt like that at all, he, he
