No restart in Windows 98 se
Windows 98 se won't restart or restart in dos mode. Also, I can't start misconfig from Start>Run. It shuts down just fine though. Any ideas? It does the same after wipe and reinstall. Thanks

I don't get any error messages. When I try to restart It hangs at Windows is shutting down screen but hard drive light does not stay on like it is locked up.
Have you taken a look at my referenced web pages? The first Microsoft KB link is about the problem of hanging.

try is any shutdown patches available from microsoft. Check out from the windows update. Another thing is to disable fast shutdown via msconfig

I have tried shutdown patch and disabling fast shutdown. I,ll now try suggestions on web pages supplied by StevenLewis and LeeTutor.

If the Shutdown Update is installed and it's still not working correctly,
The Fast Shutdown registry key may be enabled.
The Microsoft System Configuration utility includes an option to disable Fast Shutdown. If this option is unchecked in Windows 98 Second Edition, your system may reboot instead of shutting down.
To resolve this issue, backup the registry and/or export the following keys:
go to Start>Run, type regedit. Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ CurrentCon trolSet\Co ntrol\Shut down
Right-click on the FastReboot entry, choose modify and type in the number 0.

The fix was to disable irq steering, but now I have no free irq available for Creative SB16 Emulation.
