I have an Epson Stylus Color 777 inkjet printer and am about to need my first set of refill cartridges.  On my prior H-P printers you could use third party cartidges without much dificulty (I know about H-P's warnings about invalidating warranties, printing problems, and the end of mankind!)

I am probalby going with a third party approach with the Epson but remember reading that some manufacturer (Epson ?) put a microchip in their cartridge which would cause the printer to not work without "authentic" cartidges.

Does anybody have any experience with third party cartidges in the Epson Stylus Color 777, 880, 980 series??

Thanks

Dave

Apparently there are workarounds for that chip:

I did a search on the internet and found this:

Great reply.  I thought it was Epson doing this (sneaky corporate action) and having a workaround is quite interesting.  Not sure if I want to do it but at least I have options now.  Thanks for you reply!
