I'm developing an application in ASP. In certain pages I have to upload images. So in that particular page I have given <form action="http://someurl" ENCTYPE="multipart/form-data" method="post">.
I'm using vb component for uploading the file. It works fine. After finishing the page1 it goes to page2, if I click the browser back button from page2, it gives "warning:page expired" error. Please help me to sort out this problem.

All the pages whereever i'm using this ENCTYPE="multipart/form-data", I'm facing the problem.

this is probably because you have response.expires = 0, or something similar.  take that part out.

The same code works in netscape but fails in ie5.
1) I'm in page1 where u have "multipart/form-data"
2) I go to page2.
3) when I click browser back button it gives the following error.

"Warning: Page has Expired The page you requested was created using information you submitted in a form. This page is no longer available. As a security precaution, Internet Explorer does not automatically resubmit your information for you.

To resubmit your information and view this Web page, click the Refresh button.". but works fine in netscape.

Please give me a solution.

Hello msdixon,

     Due some official reason I'm not able to paste the code. This problem comes for me only when I fetch data from the database and show. In page1 I fetch data from database and I have ENCTYPE="multipart/form-data" in that page. when I click the link to page2.asp and use browswer back button it is giving problem. So all the pages where I'm fetching data from datbase(for modification), in that page I have ENCTYPE="multipart/form-data" in form action and it gives problem.

Thanks and regards,
S.Balaji

without seeing some of the code it's difficult to say what the problem is. the error 'page expired' occurs when you either 1) set response.expires to a value, or 2) set the page expiration within iis.

I'm noticing the very same problem in IE6.  If you return back to a page that itself was generated as the result of multi-part form data POST containing a file upload control, then the "Warning: Page has Expired" error results.  This problem does not occur on IE, and it does not occur if the file upload control is not present in the form.  Here is a CGI in Perl that demonstrates this problem:

==================================
#!/usr/bin/perl

use strict;

my $time = time();

print <<TEXT;
Content-type: text/html

<html><body>

time: $time

<form enctype="multipart/form-data" method="post" action="posttest.pl">

<input type="FILE" name="upload">
<input type="submit">
</form>

</body></html>
TEXT
==================================

Press SUBMIT twice and then press the back button.  IE gives the "Warning: Page has Expired" error.

I don't know why.
