Does anybody know where in Mgetty+sendfax you can set mgetty NOT to use PULSE dial (can you believe that it is the deafault!!!) but rather use tone dial.
I tried to use ATD as modem string options in mgetty's config files with no result. It dials pulse never mind what you do.

hi
u have 2 ways:
1)changing dialing mode in ur modem ,it can be done with minicom ,run it and then type:
att                 //t mean tone dialing
at&w0               //saving it in modem memory

note that this commands are correct for my us-robotic modem and are dependent to ur modem

2)forcing mgetty ,itself , to use tone dial for this you have to dial with the command like this
atdt893294839

atd is not enough and it uses modem default mode to dial

also atdp XXXX means dialing in pulse mode

Found some info here that you may or may not already have.

http://theory.uwinnipeg.ca/localfiles/infofiles/mgetty.html

The site talks about a mgetty.config file (which is also documented) and keyword and command line options such as:
FAX_DIAL_PREFIX
There is also a sendfax.config file that includes the dial-prefix.

Hope this helps.

What happens if you do not use mgetty?  Have you verified that this modem works properly using any other program?

Modem works.
Can send faxes with "fax send".
Can also send faxes under Win4Lin using BitFax.
Modem answers OK under AT command set in terminal.
Only problem is with Mgetty+Sendfax.

Is this statement from the site I referred you to still true?

WARNING: This package is still BETA software. Use it at your own risk, there is no warranty. If it erases all the data on your hard disk, damages your hardware, or kills your dog, that is entirely your problem. Anyway, the program works for me and quite a lot of other people.

If so, maybe the software is buggy.

I think that that is the state of the matter.
THE SOFTWARE IS BUGGY --- Mgetty + Sendfax is basically crap.
I give you the points for confirming what I suspected for a long time.
Anyway
Thanks.
