Real Audio

I want to listen to RushLimbaugh's radio show on my computer.  I use RedHat Linux 7.1.  

QUESTION:  Does Real Audio work on RedHat Linux?  Where can I get it? How do I install it.

COMMENT:  I'm a brand new convert from Windows to Linux.  I'll need my hand held in installing this.

Get
---
http://www.real.com - follow the links to the free player (lower right of the home page)
Then click the tiny link for Real Player 8 Basic
Pick UNIX for the OS and JavaScript will take you to another page when you release the mouse button.
Then pick Linux 2.x (libc6 i386) RPM
Fill out the rest of the form and click download.

Install
-------
As for any RPM
Become root with "su -"
rpm -Uvh file.you.downloaded.rpm

I got the file.  

QUESTIONS:

1.  What does the first 'rpm' do. (rpm -Uvh file.you.downloaded.rpm)
 
2. And what does '-Uvh' do?  And I'm in the dark on that one, too.

3.  Once I execute the command, will a install process start or does it simply 'unzip' the file?

I installed it ....but.....

When I click on an audio clip from the web page I get a opo-up 'Save As' window that as me to save the /root/lib/RealPlayer8/*.asx file.  So I say yes and it saves it but no audio happens.

What gives?

Type "rpm --help" for a fill list.

RPM is a package format, like a zip file and install program in one.

U - upgrade from earlier version of this rpm or do a clean insteall if it isn't there already

v - display detailed errors

h - display %age install meter.

If clicking on a soundfile isn't running RealPlayer automatically then the browser probably doesn't know about it. What browser are you using? Also check the real site - it should tell you how to install it as a browser plugin.

Thanks, your info is helpful.  I'll study up on the commands.

I'm was using NetScape (came with RedHat 7.1.  I think your right.  I looked in the Edit->Preferences->File-> something (I'm on a different machine now and it doesn't have NetScape on it) to make the association but it didn't work.  So, I guess I did it wrong.

I'll look at Real's site but they were'nt very helpful when it came to Linux.

Can you tell me 'How To' make the association.

Just asociating it probably isn't enough - it is a plug in not an app to launch.
