I have a boolean property which I want to be true when I place the component on a form. I could assing true to the property in the constructor, but if I then at designtime make the property false, the property is made true when I run the app.

If the property is published then the Delphi streaming mechanism will ensure that the correct value is set based on the properties you specify in the Object Inspector.
