Hello all.
I am new to flash and need some assistance.

How do I name keyframes.

Lets say I have 4 keyframes, how would I name them to use gotoAndPlay("nameofkeyframe") from one keyframe to another to manipulate their control.

Thanks.

go to your windows drop down then choose panels then select frame.
This will produce a panel.
On this panel it will say "label".
Select the frame you wish to label.
Then fill in the name for that frame on the panel

note:
It is good to have a seprate layer just for frame labels.
any time you need to create a new label choose the frame push f6 to create a new key frame the place name.

Let me know,
Jeff

Hello jeffbeasley.

I placed the labels on each of my keyframes like you indicated...

On the start of 2nd keyframe I inputted gotoAndPlay("frame4"); and on the end of my 4th keyframe I inputted gotoAndPlay("frame1");   Now when I select play, the movie goes in sequential order from the first till last without jumping from 2 to 4 and from 4 to 1. Is there any missing points on my part?

Thanks.

try putting a stop action before you put the gotoAndPlay();
Another thing you might try is just useing the default value in flah for goto and play
for example if you new you  wanted play frame 10
just type
stop();
gotoAndPlay(10);

I tried the stop() and trace("in 4")...

It seems like some option is off which tells flash to inspect actionscript for different keyframes. Maybe I have to save it first?

I got your example. Im sure it worked for you. When I play it, the vertical line goes through all the frames. The two parts where you have actionscrips to skip into label 'a' and then 'b' didnt work. I saw the message 'You should not see this' two times. This means that the scripts are not executed on my flash-software. COuld it be that I have to connect the script together with the frames through some sort of check-boxes from the settings or options. This makes me believe because your environment lets you execute the scruipts and my doesnt. There must be something one other little detail.

Thank you.

when you generate the flash file push
<CTRL><ENTER>
at the same time this will genrate an swf for you then open it in your browser and see what happens
If you still get the problem
right click on the movie in your browser
it should say
About Macromedi Flash 5 Player
If it has a lower version goto Macromedia and download the latest version
