Internet browsers has registered a lot of extensions for media files (avi, mpg, wav, mpeg), and there is a lot of programs that puts plugins into them. For example, if you install QuickTime you can play .mov files, with RealPlayer .ra, .ram, etc... but there is none to play .dat movies by default. You must search if there is a plugin to play .dat movies and install it (and for each browser you want). Go to Microsoft and Netscape home pages to find them, but I am not sure they exist.

When you have a extension registered (with a plugin instaled), making a simple link will open the correct player (with player controls, if it has it). If you want to open the player into page (not with a link), you must use EMBED tag (see http://msdn.microsoft.com/workshop/author/dhtml/reference/objects/EMBED.asp for help), but both only work if YOU HAVE INSTALLED THE PLUGIN FOR PLAY DAT MOVIES.

Bye.

Are you sure it's a movie of some kind? dat files can be almost anything -- and I haven't seen them be movies (though it's certainly possible)

Where did this come from?
