good throughput measurement tool?

i'm looking for a good software(for free would be the best), which provides me exact information about the amount of data transferred between two hosts in my own network. actually it is a WAN. i have heard about some tool that sends data itself and gets it back and however broadcasts the behavior of the throughput...

thanks for any help

We use a little application called Q check from NetIQ.
Go to http://netiq.com and look in their products section. Qcheck will allow you to check throughput between any two machines on your network. You install an endpoint on any machines you want to check, it has very little overhead, runs in the background, and you install the application on any workstation that you use to check FROM.
IT has helped us many times get answers as far as netowrk poroblems. It only allows a throughput test for a size of 1 megabyte, but thzt often will let you know if there is a problem.
Question has a verified solution.
