there is no "minimize" command.
but you can make the window small and then move it off the viewable area of the screen, or you can loose it's focus immediately like this:

window.open('yourpage.html')
winow.focus()

well then how do they load those annoying minimized pages that keep popping up the other ones when you are trying to close them?   I dont want to annoy ne1 - but a proggie that i am working on needs a window to open in the background that refreshes and checks for updates....

there is no window.open.min or something?

nope, they work by the techniques I listed above (usually by moving the window out of the viewable area).

you can still do all the stuff you want to do.

you can set it's onunload event to load itself forinstance, and then it would be tough to close.

Try playing with this:

<script language="JavaScript">

<!--

function ShowPopupRAP()
{
     var popupURL = "file.htm";
       var popup = window.open(popupURL,"login",'toolbar=0,locationbar=0,status=1,menubar=0,scrollbars=0,resizable=0,width=550,height=380');
     // set the opener if it's not already set.  it's set automatically
     // in netscape 3.0+ and ie 3.0+.
     if( navigator.appName.substring(0,8) == "Netscape" )
     {
          popup.location = popupURL;
     }
}

// -->

</script>
