Add / Remove doesn't seem to work...

I have a PDC running Windows 2000 Advanced Server.  And for some reason, the ADD / REMOVE Software doesn't seem to work.

Each time I press it... it just sits there.  There are no profiles being run to disable it.  And when you press it, you can see that it loads up mshta.exe in the processes.  But it just sits there...

Anyone know what's happening?  I need to uninstall some software...

In addition, make sure you have sp2 installed, and check all your event logs !

I hope this helps !

AAmante I've seen & repaired this problem once before..
-I'm not sure what causes it.
here is what I tried..
-Click on add/remove.. go to processes & change the priority of mshta.exe to real time.. no effect.
-Replace mshta.exe ..no effect.
-re-install service pack 2.. no effect.

-Insert server CD.. choose repair (automatic, no need to worry about selecting options)
-Test.. Working fine.
-Reinstall SP2.. Still ok.

Will repairing from CD reset any other settings I've already implemented?

If not... I'll give it a try.

If you're still having the problem, upgrade to the latest version of Internet Explorer. (use Windows Update) That will fix it.

shek,
Expounding: There is a plethora of words available in the English language.  Wonderful, zip-zab-fabulous words.  I have chosen to substitute the old 2 words with a single word that sums up what transpired.  The questioner gave up their points twice; once when they received a potential solution to the problem, and once when the failed to close the question as reminded by C101.  In addition, the experts denied all claims to the points twice;  once when the questioner posted a follow-up question that remained unanswered for 7 months and once when they failed to respond to C101's cleanup request.  Therefore everybody on this thread failed to establish their claim to the points.  Forfetited was chosen because it seems to match the scenario very well.  Everybody seemed to burn up the deeds to the points here.

Just as easily, I could have chosen any phrases/words from the following list:

PAQ'd and points....
surrendered
sacrificed
given up
parted from
lost
squandered
removed
NOT refunded
charged
penalized
removed from the questioner's account
denied the ability to become fruitful
withered on the vine
fined
presto-unescrowed
trounced
thrashed
Tossed in the great bit-bucket
expired
buried 6 feet under
enshrined in a coffin
Lost in the slot bandit
slipped into the gutter
melted
bailed
jumped ship
vamoosed
amscrayed
left the scene
started over in reincarnation
sent home
taxed
Houdini'd
vaporized
vanquished
banished
re-deposited in the great EE vault
undertaken
laid to rest
placed in Davey Jones' locker
etherealized
went to a worthy cause
donated
consumed
retired to limbo
relinquished
given up for lent
defaulted upon
pruned
surgically removed
canned
NOT awarded, yet not returned to the questioner
fed to the crocs
not appropriated
unavailable

I'm sure there's plenty more, but I've got some 6,000 locked questions to deal with and in the time I spent dealing with this question, I could have take care of at least 10 of them. ;P

Have a good day
