Briefing:

1) I have a modem connected to the serial port on a Linux
2) I have JRE 1.3.1 installed on the Linux
3) My development computer is not a Linux, but a Win2k with JDK 1.3.1
4) I will increase the points of this Q as needed

Questions:

A) How do I send Hayes AT commands to the modem using Java?
B) Can this be done so the classes would remain platform independent?
C) Do I need to install any additional packages either on the develoment computer or the deployment computer?

Regards,

Have a look at JCA:

You can interact with your modem through COM port, so it's still platform independent

But it needs some installation .. so it's not really independent

I only found the packages for Windows and Solaris. Do you have any knowledge if the Solaris package will also work in Linux?
