Messenger Service?

I was just wondering if/how it's possible to send messages to the MSN Messenger service ... is this maybe a closed standard, they do not want anyone to know about?

Or maybe they don't care about people writing their own programs to do this?

I know about one program called Trillian which can use ICQ, MSN and other services.

Do you know how this is done?  I'd really like to try and create a program that could interact with the MSN client ....

I am familiar with TCP/IP programming using the Server/Client socket components of Delphi.

Thanks for the input mnasman!
This Turbopower product seems to be quite able, but I bet it costs "a bunch" ...

Does anyone have a way to do this by code? No components?
