Is it possible to have an interdev project NOT create a sub folder on the server but use the web root as the projects location.  All I manage to do is get a sub folder and I need to open an existing site as a project.

start the new project dialoge box (ctrl + N)
enter the name
click open
select the server (or type it in if it's not already there)
click next
select the 'connect to an existing web application on [serverName]' radio button
select the application you want to attach to. (use <Root Web> for the main directory on that server)
click finish
