In Administratiohn Mode, it is free, but somewhat restricted (2 max. concurrent users, no sound and max 256 color display). If you want to use it for more users, you need to have the following licenses:

* Windows 2000 Client Access Lincense
* A TS client license (if not accessed by a W2K Pro workstation)

The Microsoft Clearinghouse will keep track of your license usage. Note that, for 90 days, you can run the TS without licenses.

When you install Windows 2K Terminal services, you will need to choose application mode and not administration mode to be able to get the full functionality of Terminal Services. By default you can have 2 connections forever or as many as you want for 90 days until you purchase the licensing.

Installation: it asked you in which mode to run during the initial installation of Windows 2000. This means that it's already active now, probably in Administration Mode. To activate Full Mode (but read the Licensing link I've posted before making your choice), you need to go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, Windows Components, check both Terminal Services and Terminal Services Licensing, continue and finish the wizard. That's mostly it.

Port is 3389 (TCP). The client software can also be downloaded from MS or installed from your server CD (in this case, also check the client files checkmark in the setup step above).

Only one advice: if you have a W2000 domain, TS Licensing only works on a DC, not on a member server. Of course you can run TS Licensing on a stand alone server with it's own user administration.
