Mailmerge & Word

Hi,

I would like to know how to create a Word document (even better use a template) and fill it with values from a notes database. Typical example would be to mark several people from a database with addresses and send them a prepared letter.

I suppose this can be done by mailmerge, so let notes create a mailmerge file somewhere, and then start word with the appropriate letter and mailmerge so that it creates the 'ready-to-print' version.

A related, but possibly different, questions would be how to keep track of this letter in the send-history of those people in the notes database, and how to find back the Word-letter you've send (how to store this link, or the whole document into the notes database).

Thanks, Bert.

Hi Zvonko,

Seems like the right direction. I ran into one problem: I don't really know what a 'bookmark' is in Word, and since we use Word in our own language, that doesn't help too much either (That is dutch b.t.w.). So the text I insert appears at the top of the document, and not in the desired 'field' in the template.

Also, do you happen to know about a detailed list with all available functions in notes for the Word OLE-object. I've searched at WWW but couldn't find anything in an hour...

Bye, Bert.

OK Bert,

for your dutch Word version it is not a problem. Simply record a keystroke makro and lookup the VisaulBasic code of it. It is nearly the same code as for LotusScript with the exception that you do not have the Word constatants values (numeric). You have to lookup them in VB explorer. Press ALT-F11 in Word to goto the VB explorer.

For all Word functions available in LotusScript goto LotusDesigner, open a LotusScript agent and look into Reference tab for "OLEclasses". There will you find all installed OLE servers and their interfaces.

In any case you have to get familiar with this all, 'cose no example is as good to be cut'n pasted and up and running <|;-)

zvonko

Thanks, Bert.
