Is it possible to create your own SSL Keys without having to get one from Verisign or any other company?. is there a free way of doing this?

Yes and no....

Yes, you can create your own SSL certificates but they are not so useful.  Users of your site will get a big warning dialog that says the CA is untrusted.  And so they will not trust you.

If you just want to do it for private use or to test, both Verisign and Thawte have a free cert generator on their web sites.  Or, you can do it yourself with SSLEAY:
