asked on

problem opening adobe attachment in MS Outlook

Hi All,
When i receive an email, with any attachment, i am able to click and open it without any problem. But, when i receive adobe acrobat files as attachment(the file size is 1.3 mb for eg.), i am not able to open it and outlook throws an error saying, 'low memory and system resources.. close some programs and try again...unable to open attachment'....but i have checked the virtual memory and there is no other program that is running and i am susre i have a lot of free memory for applications to run...so what could cause this problem. please advice asap.

thanks,
ks

Hi ezee,

Do you have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed in your PC ? You need this software to view the pdf file.

If you have installed it, try to save it in your local drive first before you open it.

ezee,

I'm assuming you are using Outlook Express.

The problem occurred might be the caused of Outlook Express is your default Simple Messaging application programming interface (MAPI) client.

Try this:

Do not use Outlook Express as your default Simple MAPI client. Follow the guidelines below:

(a) Start Outlook Express.
(b) On the Tools menu, click Options.
(c)Click the "Make Outlook Express my default Simple MAPI client" check box to clear it, and then click OK.

Sorry, if i haven't given enough information. I am using MS Outlook 2000 and not outlook express. I am able to open other attachments, but not the one's from adobe acrobat. But when i try it in different m/c, i am able to open it with out any issue.

Hi Jeff,
I had tried that sometime back, before receiving yar email. But the error message seems to be the same. I didnt get any customized message or anything different.
I haven't tried uninstalling acrobat yet. I will do, after trying couple of other stuffs.

Sounds like your file association might be off for the PDF files, as I think you mentioned double clicking doesn't work either.  Try this:

1.  Save the file to your desktop
2.  Left click once on the file to highlight it
3.  Hold down on the SHIFT key and right click it
4.  Choose "Open With"
5.  Check the "Always open with" option
6.  Choose Adobe Acrobat
7.  Click OK

This should set the file association for PDF files, now try double clicking on one or opening one from Outlook to see if the problem is still occurring.
