Completing an Online Backup of Exchange 5.0 on Win2k Server

I am searching for a way to have NTBackup on a Win2k Server perform a backup of Exchange 5.0 without having to manually stop and restart the services everytime.  Is there a way to set up a job using NTBackup to do this?  I have a script from an NT4.0 server that worked just fine but it will not work on the Win2k Server.   I noticed in the NTBackup screen Microsoft Exchange is listed with the local drives but is not availible to select.  Is there a way to have Win2k in a sense buffer the traffice while the message store of Exchange is being backed up and then apply the changes after the back up is completed?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

NickR

You really should use a 3rd party agent to properly backup Exchange, because of the open file problem.

OFM backup open files.
There are others.
Also - I would not rely on win2k simplified backup ( actually from Veritas ) for something as important as an Exchange server !!

I hope this helps !

That's because the Exchange online backup option is only available when you purchased and installed the Exchange backup Agent from Veritas.

It looks like you're being cheap right at this point. If uninterruptable email and online backup is so crutial to your business, buy it and stimulate the already troubled economy. Otherwise, write a script and stay with the offline backup.
