What NIC?
WHat do you want to configure it to do?

Try the "netconfig" tool.

[root@goth /root]# netconfig

It is possible you haven't installed netconfig then. I'll try to track down the package it comes in when I get home tonight.

Or I could just use rpmfind (sigh).

Somewhere on your install CDs you should find a file called:

netconfig-SOME-VERSION-NUMBER.i386.rpm

(e.g. netconfig-0.8.11-7.i386.rpm - this is the version in the Red Hat testing system)

Find it then:

rpm -Uvh filename

(e.g. rpm -Uvh netconfig-0.8.11-7.i386.rpm)

Commented:
Try running it without "su -", just as a normal user while running X.

That might work (IIRC you should be prompted with a GUI for the root password and then get a GUI to configure the network card (assuming I am remembering this correctly)).

It depends on the device, have you made sure that your network card is supported under Linux? What make/model is it?

Author

Commented:
yes it is supported.

Use the DOS 3Com utility to take the card out of Plug-n-Play mode and assign it an IO address and an IRQ.  Make sure your PC BIOS knows you have done this (some require that you reserve IRQ for ISA cards)

After you have done that, tell me what IRQ and IO address you set on the card, and I will provide you with a modules.conf file that hould make this work.

IRQ IS 10
IO ADDRESS IS 300H
