Xerox printer troubles

I am hooked up to a LAN here at work and there are 2 printers, an HP laserjet and a big XEROX Docutech.

The problem is I keep losing the ability to print to the Xerox. Everything was fine, then suddenly the Xerox icon (I use desktop printing) became a generic printer icon and when I went to switch to it in the chooser I would get a "Printer not available" warning and nothing else. I couldn't figure this out so after a couple of re-starts and a desktop rebuild I re-installed the printer software and everything was back to normal.

Now suddenly, I have another generic icon and an "Adobe Printer Library unable to load" warning. I can't link this to any specfic event, I went to lunch and when I came back the Xerox was gone again.
Nothing untoward has happened at the Xerox itself, ppl have been using it all day.

Any thoughts?

Make sure you didnt end up with Adobe PS installed somewhere along the line. It tends to cause problems like this.

A search of the HD doesn't turn up an "AdobePS" file....
"Adobe PS" or "AdobePS"? Check your chooser. If you have two LW drivers in there something is wacky.

No...there is an icon for LaserWriter8 ... click on it and it displays the HP 8500 the Lexmark (which is no longer around) and the Xerox

There is also a Xerox icon which contains a couple of different versions (of I assume the Xerox drivers) and the correct one that I use called simply XEROX

But at this point I can't even get into the Xerox icon I get a memeory warning or no response at all...

No...I've always had good experiences with the Xerox service folks.

Wish I could say the same, but I don't know where else to go with this problem
I think that Xerox uses a re-named version of the Adobe PS that weed spoke of. Frequently, after installing Adobe PS you loose LaserWriter 8 functionality because the Adobe installer overwrites a LaserWriter 8 library file. This case seems to be the reverse. Make sure the "Adobe Printing Library" extension is not disabled in Extensions manager. I have also had weird printing problems occur if ATM doesn't load as the last control panel (sometimes pushed to second to the last by Suitcase).

Good Luck
