I have a function in my CGI program that allows the download of some of the data on site as an excel file. The function executes correctly, displays the file download dialogue box, and when I select "save to disk", downloads the file as required.

However, if "Open this file from its current location" is selected, the dialogue appears again before the file begins to download.

I presume this must be a bug in I.E 5.00 - the version I am currently using, but is there any way to by-pass this?

AFAIK this is a (security) setting in IE, you cannot by-pass programatically from your CGI.
