I have 8 windows machine in a net work.I have just configured one of them as a Linux server.I want to configure the other machines to act as linux terminals by directly booting from the server (with out using Windows and Samba) with out loading linux into any of these machines since they have only 2 gb hard disks and i dont want to remove windows
How can this be done

Check out http://www.ltsp.org

I've build a linux terminal server myself and it's great. You could use dhcp/tftp/etherboot in order to boot a linux kernel from the terminal server.

Just "burn" a bootfloppy in order to boot linux on your existing windows client. You don't have to touch windows at all :-)

The site has good documentation and in the faq you'll find links regarding the bootflop creation.

Cheers.

Can some one list out the steps to make these boot floppies
When you say burn the floppy does it mean copying to the floppy.
I would like more details
thanks

Euuhhh...did you check the info at all?

The detailed info to setup ltsp is  here: http://www.ltsp.org/documentation/lts_ig_v2.4/lts_ig_v2.4.html

You can create an etherboot ROM-image online at:
http://www.rom-o-matic.net/5.0.3/

You can copy this image to diskette just like so:
cat name_image.lzdsk > /dev/fd0

In order to setup ltsp install the rpm's onto your linux server. Follow the instructions in the info to configure (be certain to install a dhcp-server and a tftp-server).

If you don't want to touch the server, well, things will get difficult indeed.

You could install a X-server on your windows clients and log in your rh-server. Check out the XDMCP-howto in order to accomplish this:
http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/XDMCP-HOWTO/

Succes.
