URLDownloadToFile Call with HTTPS

Hey all...

I have a a question that might have two possible answers.... I am in the midst of writing a VB program that will download files from an HTTPS server, that in itself works great... but now they want to set the web server up for challenge/response.  Now the API call will not work since it is not expecting a userid/password prompt.  So here's my question(s):

1 - Is there a way to embed the user id and password into the address similar to the way you can do it for ftp? (i.e. ftp://user-info-pass-@ftp.server.com/)

2 - Alternatively, is there a different API call (or something similar) that will allow me to pass the user id and password to it?

Thanks in advance.

Only if they have enabled basic text authentication as well as challenge/response.  If your client is behind a proxy or firewall, they won't be able to use just challenge / response.  SSL makes basic text authentication much more kosher because every time the user/pass is transmitted, it is encrypted between client and server.

Like you, I'd like to hear an answer on this.  It's a problem I haven't found a solution for.

I'm sure you can find an answer if you ask it out in the main section and not append it to an existing question....

If you want it actually deleted, you have to post in Community Support.  Pending delete never really worked (like a few things around here.)
Since PaulHews has agreed to have this closed, I will refund your 100 points within the next 2 minutes, and move this to the PAQ rather than to delete it so that you can read the outcome here and the explanation I posted in regards to the DELETION and PENDING DELETION process in your Community Support request and other open question that is pended for deletion.
